Kimbo salutes our heroes, our Veterans and those currently
serving in the Armed Forces. How can we ever
thank you for your courageous service?
-We can pay tribute with a minute of silence at 3 p.m. local
time on Monday, May 28th.
-We can teach our children to respect and cherish the United
States; to be grateful for our opportunities and our long tradition of freedom.
-We can remember those who have given their lives for our
country and be grateful.
-We can thank a Veteran and all military personnel.
-We can visit memorials and monuments in memory of those who
have served our country.
-We can display the American Flag.
Memorial Day has a long history as a tradition in the United
States, beginning in the 1860’s following the Civil War. Formerly known as Decoration Day, people were
encouraged to place flowers and decorate the graves of those who had died in
war. The month of May was probably
chosen to pay tribute because flowers would be growing and therefore easily
available.
Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or a chance to get
together with family and friends. While sharing
the day is special, let’s also remember what the true meaning of this Federal
Holiday is and thank those who have served and sacrificed their lives and who
have given service.
After your moment of silence on Monday, you can celebrate
America with Kimbo’s Patriotic Songs and Marches CD, which features songs such as Stars & Stripes Forever, the
Marine’s Hymn, America the Beautiful, My Country ‘Tis of Thee, Star Spangled
Banner, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and more.
